Qld won't pay one red cent of Tugun bypas
Published: 19 May 2008 | Keywords: roads, funding, tugun

The Queensland Government says it will not be paying a land tax bill that it says was sent by the New South Wales Government for properties resumed to build the Tugun bypass.

The $543 million project had to purchase 16 properties in order to link the southern end of the Gold Coast with northern New South Wales.

Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser says the New South Wales Government now claims it is owed $235,000.

But he says he will be sending the bill straight back.

"I've got no idea why New South Wales thinks that the Queensland taxpayer, after forking out more than $400 million to build a bypass which benefits both New South Wales and Queensland taxpayers, thinks that they've got any right to ask Queensland for one red cent," he said.
