The New South Wales Opposition says the Labor Government needs to listen to its own party, after a local branch filed a formal complaint against the Premier.
The Alexandria branch based in inner Sydney filed the complaint against Premier Morris Iemma and the Treasurer Michael Costa over plans to sell off the state's electricity assets.
The party will now decide if the complaint is valid, but the acting Opposition leader Andrew Stoner says it sends a message to party leaders.
"Well I'd think I'd be calling on the leadership of the Labor Party, that includes Iemma and Costa, but also that includes the organisational leadership, to actually listen to what people are saying, to listen to their own membership," he said.
However, Coogee MP Paul Pearce, who is against the sell-off which is to be debated at the state party conference in two weeks, says while the move reflects grassroots discontent, he still thinks it is wrong.
"Whatever may be our debates and disputes about the power, the power sale proposal that's put up by the Treasurer and Iemma, I don't think anyone in their right mind wants to see Morris Iemma expelled from the party,'' he said.
"I think that's just ratbaggery and I think people ought to take a bit of a cold shower on this."
