Servos get Easter thumbs up from ACCC
Published: 25 Mar 2008 | Keywords: petrol, pricing, service stations, accc

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) says operators have kept petrol prices in line with the Singapore benchmark over the Easter long weekend.

Last week unleaded petrol prices climbed by 10 cents to more than $1.48 per litre amid claims that service stations were deliberately shutting down unleaded pumps to force motorists to buy more expensive premium fuel.

ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel says he only had two reports of excessive prices over the Easter weekend.

"There are always cases every week of rogue operators who try and push the price somewhat higher than the average," he said.

"They soon get pulled into line, either by their suppliers, or, frankly, by the motorists that simply avoid their service stations.

"That's the advice we consistently give motorists. Look around, shop for the best price, and avoid the rogue operators that are charging too much."
